I had a meeting with a large group of our different heads of institutions about how we can change this present system of education from being so rigid and so academically heavy to a system which is more flexible, more creative, more open and gives opportunities to students to develop in all possible ways. In My syllabus, not only maths, physics, chemistry, biology, history, philosophy, civics and languages should be there, along with that there should be understanding of music, fine arts, culture, Vedas, Yoga, Upanishads, all these other aspects of one’s including simple things like managing your own institution – gardening, cleaning, looking after the animals, looking after the environment – all this should be a part of their education so that when they go out, wherever they are, they are able to take care of everything.
We have constituted a committee to see how we can design our syllabus in such a way that it is very balanced – the Loukika vidya and Adhyatmika vidya both should go hand in hand. And not just one without the other. They are two sides of the same coin. One without the other is of no use. In our culture there is a methodology of education. It is Shastra Pramana first step is scriptural evidence. That is all the theory and the knowledge that is already been published, written by many many educationists. Then comes Tarka vada you must argue it out, you must logically experiment it out to know whether it really is true, or it is just a bookish knowledge. And third is Svanubhava ultimately you should be convinced only after you have experienced that knowledge for yourself. So, this should be the ancient Gurukula methodology and we are going to come up with this system called Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulas. They will be present all over the world. There is no restriction that you have to be an Indian student, or you cannot be a student from abroad. It is open to all students around the world because this Board allows us that flexibility.
So that way this whole thing will be a very holistic ancient Gurukula system of education that children will be identified early about their talents, their likes, dislikes, their interests. And they will be guided much early into what streams they should get into. You are extremely fortunate because you have both – world on one side, God on the other, a beautiful combination, a synthesis of Loukikam and Adhyatmikam is in your hands. In times to come, we will see these very important changes happening in our education system. And I want you all to understand the reason behind it. Those who are devoted to Me, who trust Me, who need Me, I know for sure that they will simply follow these. And they will see the results over a period of time.
